MEET THE GEEK BEAT CREW
There was a time when being a geek meant being a sideshow attraction. And while we’re not necessarily saying our crew never gob the cranium off domesticated waterfowl – after all, what they do in the privacy of their cages is their own business – what it means to be a geek has advanced some in the last hundred years.
Today, geek has become a title of honor. To be a geek is take on a shaman-like mantle in our society, keepers of the knowledge of how the everyday magic in our world works. Moreover, geeks have become our trusted advisors, helping us navigate the minutiae that we must deal with just to get by. Among geeks there is specialization and so geeks must support each other to advance our knowledge. Even geeks need geeks.
Beyond the means to thrive in a technical world, geeks are the wardens of new experiences. A geek’s enthusiasm for their chosen field is contagious. Their guidance doesn’t just help us set-up wireless networks, pick the right cell phone, or buy the right computer. They open new horizons of culture, entertainment, the joy of developing an encyclopedic knowledge of something that can bring joy to all our lives. Heard of The Lord of The Rings? A geek wrote those books and made those movies. And a geek was probably the first to tell you how cool they are.
All it takes to be a geek is a commitment to continual learning, a deep and abiding love for your subject, and a desire to share your knowledge with the world in a way that the world can understand.
If you think about it, we’re all geeks about something.
Or we should be.
Below is our crew. Besides being geeks each in our own way, we all have this in common: we want to share our experiences, entertain and inspire you with new possibilities.
And we hope you’ll do the same for us.
