iPhone: I Got Mine, Now You Get Yours
posted Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 by Andy Gore
It took three fruitless pilgrimages to our local Apple Store before The Geek Beat could achieve iPhoneness, and even then an insider tip was required (a tip which allowed us to bypass the lines altogether and didn’t even require we beat the sunrise – see below).
In the last 24 hours we’ve done little else but play around and take some photos (Exhibit A to your right). Our initial impressions? Wow! I mean, it’s not perfect – lack of an instant messaging client currently tops our list of complaints – but still, wow!
As we get further into testing we hope to become a bit more eloquent. Meanwhile, if you’ve been tempted by this glowing icon of seamless connectivity, it’s time to give in. It’s okay, we give you permission.
Oh, yeah, are here’s that tip: Go at noon. Apparently, many Apple Stores are getting shipments of new product midday, but don’t post that they have availability on Apple.com until the end of the day. So, if you can manage to arrive shortly after the iPhone pipeline makes its daily drop, and your Apple Store isn’t too keen on protocol (can you say, “Santa Monica?”), you can snag yourself a shiny one without having to tackle anything more onerous than the typical line at the register.
